Puto Bumbong

Puto bumbong is a beloved Filipino delicacy, a purple steamed rice cake made from a special variety of glutinous rice called “pirurutong”. It’s typically steamed in bamboo tubes (bumbong) and served with butter or margarine, sugar, and grated coconut. Puto bumbong is particularly associated with the Christmas season in the Philippines, often enjoyed during Simbang Gabi (dawn masses).
